Product Description: This Double Stamped Reichsbahn Armband has a bold and impressive look. It’s made of a thin, green fabric. The front of this armband is printed with a large and striking-looking German national eagle and swastika emblem, and the word “Reichsbahn” in Gothic lettering, indicating this to be one of the several patterns of armbands issued by the German state railway during the Third Reich. The fabric shows strong color, and the black printing is nice and dark, with no fading to the printed design. The front of this armband bears two crisply done, legible issue stamps. The stamps show that this armband was issued by “Reichsbahndirektion Saarbrücken.” This armband shows expected machine stitching throughout, done in green thread. The ends are joined together on the reverse, as this would have been worn. As is typical for these, there is no maker marking. This armband shows slight soiling in some areas, with a couple of stains on the back. There are no holes or other damage to note. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
