Product Description: This SS Sleeve Edelweiss Insignia is a great, unissued example of the iconic sleeve patch worn by SS Gebirgsjäger (mountain troops). It’s a typical “Dachau” style, so called because this type was among the many SS insignia items recovered at the Dachau storehouse by American troops in 1945. This sleeve patch features an Edelweiss flower, neatly machine embroidered in silver and yellow thread, within an oval border. The base fabric is typical black SS woven wool. The reverse of this patch shows the image in reverse; there is no backing cloth behind the embroidery, which is standard for these. There is no fraying, no stitch holes or any traces of this having ever been sewn to anything. This SS Sleeve Edelweiss Insignia is in near mint condition, with only extremely slight age toning. It is an attractive and very displayable piece of Waffen-SS insignia.
Historical Description: WWII German SS Sleeve Edelweiss worn by members of the SS Gebirgstruppen (Mountain Troops). It was worn on the right sleeve of both the tunic and the great coat. The SS Sleeve Edelweiss is constructed of silvery/grey embroidered flower petals and dual leaves, and stem; with seven yellow stamen. The cloth insignia is near mint with no wear or mothing. A lot of times you will find these in veteran lots from the U.S. 42nd and 45th Infantry Division, when they liberated Dachau.
