BEVO Feldherrnhalle Cuff Title

Product Description: This unissued Feldherrnhalle Cuff Title is a rare and extremely desirable piece of insignia. This cuff title was originally authorized for wear by SA members serving in the SA-Wachtstandarte Feldherrnhalle, an honor guard unit that was initially formed in Munich and then later spread all over the Reich. Shortly after the outbreak of the war, members of this honor guard were used to form Infantry Regiment 271 of the German Army, which served in France before fighting on the Eastern Front. This unit was later used to form a Division, and then expanded to a Korps; these Wehrmacht units were authorized to wear the Feldherrnhalle cuff title as a distinctive unit insignia. This example is textbook, Bevo machine woven construction. The word “Feldherrnhalle” is perfectly executed in Germanic Sütterlin script, in cream-colored thread on a light brown band. This is the SA version of this cuff title, though it is believed the German Army later made use of these for some personnel in Feldherrnhalle field units. The reverse of this Feldherrnhalle Cuff Title still retains the original paper RZM tag, with the manufacturer code A4/866. This armband remains in near mint condition, with no frays, tears or other damage, and only extremely slight age toning.

Historical Description: Cuff titles (Ärmelstreifen) are uniform accoutrements that have been used in the German military since the 19^thcentury. Intended to foster a certain sense of ‘esprit de corps’ amongst members of the armed forces, they were authorized for wear by members of designated units for the duration of their service time within that unit. In the event of transfer out of the unit, the cuff title was to be removed from the service member’s uniform. During the Third Reich, the German military continued this tradition by instituting honorary cuff titles to certain ‘special’ formations. This practice is perhaps most well-known for its application amongst Waffen- ϟϟ units. Cuff titles were also authorized for wear within all branches of the Wehrmacht (Army, Air Force and Navy) as well. These unit-specific cuff titles are not to be confused with others, which were awarded for participation in a certain campaign. The tradition, within the German military of wearing cuff titles, continues into the 21^st century with certain honor guard contingents of the Bundeswehr being permitted to wear unit-specific cuff titles.
