Product Description:  A well-preserved German Military Watch with Photos, featuring a PARA Bruchsicher Para 782 S model produced by Paul Raff in Pforzheim, typically issued for Heer use. The timepiece operates with winding, though it will likely benefit from professional servicing to ensure continued precision. The watch remains in good condition for its age, with an original leather strap that is clean, pliable, and intact. The bezel exhibits some period-appropriate spidering, adding character and confirming its authentic wartime use, while the bold, utilitarian design reflects the rugged functionality prized by collectors of WWII German military watches.

Accompanying the watch is a stack of World War II–era photographs depicting both family and military scenes, enhancing the provenance and historical context. This lot was acquired from an estate in Nashville, Tennessee, originally belonging to the family of a Latvian émigré who settled in the United States in the late 1940s. The combination of a functioning, rare PARA Bruchsicher watch with original wartime imagery offers collectors both technical interest and personal historical narrative, making this German Military Watch with Photos a highly desirable lot for militaria enthusiasts.

Historical Description: During World War II, German military watches were purpose-built instruments designed to meet the strict demands of coordination, navigation, and battlefield reliability. Among the most iconic were the Beobachtungsuhren (“B-Uhren”), large observation watches issued primarily to Luftwaffe navigators. Typically measuring around 55mm in diameter, these watches featured highly legible black dials with luminous Arabic numerals, oversized crowns for use with gloves, and hacking seconds to allow precise synchronization. Produced under government contract by manufacturers such as A. Lange & Söhne, Laco, Stowa, Wempe, and IWC, these timepieces adhered to standardized specifications, including long leather straps to be worn over flight gear and movements regulated for exceptional accuracy.

In addition to pilot watches, various branches of the German military utilized Dienstuhren (service watches), which were generally smaller and more practical for everyday wear by soldiers and officers. These watches were often marked on the caseback with military issue codes such as “D” for Dienstuhr, “H” for Heer (army), “M” for Kriegsmarine (navy), or “FL” for Luftwaffe, followed by identification numbers. While materials and finishing could vary due to wartime shortages, functionality and durability remained essential. Today, original WWII German military watches are highly sought after by collectors, valued for their precision engineering, distinctive utilitarian design, and strong historical association with the technological and operational demands of the period.
